We have a false picture about how success happens. Because we often see only the results and almost never the process of things, we tend to think that the finished product—a book, the great product, being in shape, being wise—is impressive, and therefore the process by which that event was created must have been equally brilliant.
Actually, it’s usually the opposite.
To achieve the successful end result, is in general a “boring” process of compounding consistent actions. Yes, there is definitely a role of luck and variance at play. But without that first step the odds of lady luck shining down are on the lower side.
I used to think consistency and “daily habits” were a whole load of crap. I wanted life and the magical results to happen with the keywords of NOW, QUICK & FAST. I thought I would just show up and boom, I would magically make it happen and be successful. And at times, I kept looking for a “short cut” or some “secret” outside of me that could things happen instantly or without me putting in any / little effort.
Gosh. Simple things / habits consistently compounded over time will have a huge impact. Please realise this earlier on in your life. If you do, you’ll have a clear edge. Whether it be learning a new language for 15 minutes a day for a year or, meditating for 10 minutes every day. It’s the unseen progress that builds over time.
Promise yourself a list of 3 daily actions and commit to them for a year. Those actions may be refined over time. You’ll look back after a year and realise how much has changed. The question is, will you commit and carry it out?
